Christian Discipleship Centre, Bangladesh
Bishu married Vijaya after his discharge from hospital following the eight years of hospital rehabilitation that included treatment in Australia. They enrolled in WEC Tasmania, and following training they began their work in Bangladesh. In 1979 Bishu and Vijaya founded the Christian Discipleship Centre (CDC), a full time residential, non denominational Christian teaching centre for men and women. Always very practically based, additional subjects included leadership, children’s ministry, primary school teaching, adult literacy, basic health care, and income generation skills. The CDC courses have stood the test of time. Practically based, these courses provide the basic skills to improve life in the villages of Bangladesh. The villagers are delighted that they are being helped in the things of daily life that really matter to them. These courses have opened the door to their hearts. Only God could have shown Bishu and Vijaya how to make these courses so relevant, and only God can put it into the hearts of the CDC Graduates to go back into crushing poverty to share their skills, and the love of God, with the rural people. This initiative bears all the marks of the One who loves people, who gave Himself for them, and who works in daily matters to care for them. On December 15, 2006, 21 students including 8 women graduated from CDC. There are now 621 CDC graduates which include 196 women. 32 new students including 10 married couples will be starting on their CDC training on January 22, 2007. Articles - most recent first: |
