World Outreach UK Constitution
World Outreach was founded in 1932, working first only in Europe under the name 'Russian and Eastern European Mission'. With the fall of the iron curtain, it changed its name to 'Slavic Mission', concentrating efforts on displaced Slavic peoples worldwide. The mission next expanded into Asia as the 'Slavic and Oriental Mission', and in 1968 finally changed its name into 'World Outreach'.
The World Outreach trust was founded in the UK in March 1969 in Dorchester, Dorset, and application made to the Charity Commission for recognition as a Charitable Trust.
Thus, on 1st January 1970, World Outreach was registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (Charity No 258378), address 28 Trinity Street, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1EH with the objectives:
- to propagate by all means and avenues possible,
throughout the world, the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- to send missionaries.
- to employ workers in different countries where
the society is and will operate.
- to establish orphanages and care for orphans.
- to establish bible schools and any other projects
considered necessary for the promotion of the gospel.
- to advance the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ by the promotion of radio, television and literature projects, and by the production of books, tracts, magazines, and other such literature, tape recordings, records, films, radio and television programmes.
To respond to changes in the UK in the 21st century, on 18th July 2003 World Outreach was incorporated as a Company limited by guarantee (Company No 04837413), registered address 62 Harcourt Drive, Earley, Reading, RG6 5TJ, and re-registered on 18th December 2003 with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (Charity No 1101264) with the objectives:
- the advancement of the Christian Faith.
- the relief of persons who are in conditions of need, hardship, or distress, or who are aged or sick.
Although these statements are more succinct, they remain consistent with the original objectives of the mission.
On 1st October 2009, the office moved to Market Harborough, and on 1st November 2009, the registered address became 21 Summers Way, Market Harborough, LE16 9QE.
It is necessary to clarify that the trust does not
make grants or loans available to individuals not already connected
to the mission.
This is because every mission project and mission
partner is thoroughly vetted by World Outreach, and incoming funds
are, almost always, already designated by the donor to projects
and ministries to which World Outreach has already committed.
