From the UK Office

November, 2006

David Greening - previous UK Director.Mike Cross, of World Outreach UKJust before I sat down to write this letter to you, news came through that David Greening, the former Director of World Outreach UK, was very seriously ill.

Investigations over the last four years have only just found what is wrong. Please pray for David, Thelma and their family at this time.

David served World Outreach faithfully for the major part of his working life, involving his family to stay on top of the work. A man of integrity, he laid down the responsibility in 2003 to open the way for others to serve. We are very grateful to him and his family.

Kairos Courses on World Mission continue to be popular, with two taster courses at the end of November in Whitburn and Leith, Scotland.

A new DVD with running time 28 minutes, “Why Europe, Why Now?” is a call to pray for Europe, to see the need and the hope for this continent, and is available from infokairoscourse.org.uk or the Kairos office in Leeds on 0113 350 8087. Produced by Caleb Project Europe for the Kairos Course, in association with World Outreach, the price is £10, $20, or €15 including postage and packing.

Patricia Green called in a few days ago on her journeyings around the country visiting contacts and attending a conference. Under the banner ‘Rahab International’ she continues to be very active in encouraging groups who work to bring women out of prostitution.

Patricia has just published a workbook ‘A Model for Ministry’ in which she defines the ethos of the Rahab work, laying out the scriptural basis, and describing the history and achievements of Rahab in Thailand. This book will be of tremendous help to anyone involved in such a work, covering financial procedures, sponsorship, contracts, and many other important issues in its 108, A4 pages. Here is more information, and please continue to pray for Patricia.

Map of Nacala area.Steve and Rebekah Besford continue to settle into life in Mozambique – see map – exploring the culture and needs as well as building relationships with key people, both local and other missionaries. They plan to return to the UK in February next year for a short visit.

It is good that they have a number of expatriate friends who can help them as they adapt to life to Africa. For more information and photos, and information for prayer, please see the website.

Bary and Rowena McKnight. We should especially like to welcome Barry and Rowena McKnight to World Outreach. In 1974 they began serving as missionaries with OMF in Thailand, bringing up their 4 children there, and being involved in years of faithful service with the Thai church leadership. Their long term vision is to become involved again in church planting in Thailand.

The Good News Team correspondence program, also in Thailand, continues to run with over 100,000 children currently involved, in addition to those who have completed the course. “Its encouraging to see how much God teaches the children by His Spirit, as they study with us” writes Valerie Bateup. Supaluk says: “Now that I’ve come to know God, I feel warm and at peace. It’s like there is someone always beside me and with me.”

That’s reality!

Michael Cross – Operations Director
